Things...

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 17, 2008, 12:56 PM

That's right. Things.

First of all, there's the (hopefully) snazzy looking journal. Don't think I did the CSS myself. I cheated and used one of those free journal creator thingies, but did it in the style of my portfolio at it's new domain of www.sam-turner.com
I felt that 18-55mm was just too complicated to say out loud to people and was hard to remember (unless you're a photograhy enthusiast). I've still got that domain too though.

I went out yesterday to High Force, which is a pretty big waterfall (by England's standards) on the River Tees. Being the doofus I am, I left the platform bit of my tripod at home (the thing that attaches to the camera with the screw). I was pretty gutted, and had to use my own 'glove + flat rocks' tripod system. They turned out alright, so I'll edit some and upload them.

Also, went to this nature reserve place with lots of deer, so I got some nice shots there. Although, here's a tip for you guys. Wildlife photography with a 50mm prime lens is pretty challenging. Try telephotos. :P
So, expect some creative deer portraiture soon. =P

I won't be uploading too much stuff soon 'cause I need to prepare for AS exams!

Anything interesting going on with you guys?

Sam

Oh, and here's some more features. This time, from the awesome and helpful :iconurusername:.

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 15, 2008, 3:55 PM

'Twas my 17th birthday yesterday! Now I can learn to drive, which I'm rather looking forward to. ;)

In other news, I'm going to take a break from web design. I moved to the more corporate side of design a while back because there was the opportunity of money making, and to be honest, because everyone else was doing it, and I fancied a stab at the cake.

Unfortunately, it's got to the point where I don't enjoy opening Photoshop like I used to. Having to conform to specific styles, structures and constant formality drives me up the wall sometimes.

So, I'm taking some time of from that side of things, and I'm going to get back into digital art and concentrate a lot more on my photography. I'm looking to go into areas I've never tried before, the first being portraiture, so expect some new shots soon. ;)

I've been looking through all the art packs on slashthree, konvulse, evoke, depthcore .etc, and although I know I'm so far away from anything like that, I can't help but desire to throw myself at trying similar things. I see other people who have only been using PS for 2 years like myself, and I wish I could have spent my time better, and I wish I had got into this scene earlier.

Dayum. It's starting to sound like one of those ":( OMGLOLZ i wiSh I w0Z gud @ L1f3. :(" journals isn't it? =P

Unfortunately, I've got more important things to concentrate on, namely college.

Thanks for all the favs, watches and views guys. I appreciate it. ;)

P.S. I nearly forgot the features. I don't know who to feature today. Web designer? Photographer? Artist?

WASSUP?

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 14, 2008, 1:40 PM

Well, since it's February 14th, I suppose I better wish everyone a Happy Valentines Day. =]

As you can probably tell (due to the snazzy journal), I recently got a subscription. I think it was a great investment, and recommend it to those who spend a fair amount of time on dA. Journal credit goes to +ipholio. You can get this journal style yourself by clicking 'Get This CSS' above.

It's about this time I wish I knew CSS myself so I could code myself a journal. :/

Here's the deal on the art front. Expect more photography more than anything else, because I need to prepare for my photography exam that's taking place soon, so I may end up posting a few preliminary pieces here.
As for the exam, I'm undecided on which topic to choose. There's ';Portraiture' (which would be something new to me, and a challenge), 'Detail' (which involves photographs depicting the natural landscape or 'Combining Human and Mechanical Forms' (quite a narrow topic, but allows for Photoshop magic).
There's some other choices, but I felt most strongly motivated by those ones. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Continuing with the photography theme, I've recently been learning about film developing and darkroom techniques, which has been nothing short of awesome. Pretty tricky (when you have to attatch the film to a reel without being able to see what you're doing :/), but really interesting and rewarding.

Went to the Bradford Media Museum for a film workshop yesterday, which was a right laugh. Our task was to go out and shoot an advert for the museum, and then return to the editing suite and chop and edit the footage using iMovie (and some snazzay iMacs) to create the final piece. I had a great time doing it, and I recommend the museum to anyone. It's an awesome building inside.

I've also been recently doing some SitePoint (now 99designs) competitions, so I may get round to doing some more of those.

College is taking up 90% of my time, what with the AS Levels, extra GCSE and my new degree module course (starting on Saturday). That's even less time to spend in PS. Darn it.

Anyway, that's it for now.

Hope you're all doing well, and thanks a lot for the 6000 pageviews, favourites, watches and such. It's all appreciated. ;)

Well, I've been tagged by the wierd and the wonderful...

*SweetJoyCreations

Go check out her work. You won't be disappointed! ;)

:iconsweetjoycreations: :iconsweetjoycreations: :iconsweetjoycreations:

1. Post these rules
2. Each person tagged must post 8 random (hopefully interesting) facts about themselves
3. Tags should write a journal of these facts
4. At the end of the post 8 more bloggers are tagged and named
5. Go to their page and leave a comment telling them they're tagged

So, as the rules state, here are 8 (semi-interesting) facts about myself!

1) When I was younger, I had the nickname of Turnipator because of my last name (Turner). Somehow, people thought to combine how [delete as appropriate] robotic/powerful/lacking emotion/destructive/just plain awesome I was (Terminator) with a similar sounding vegetable (Turnip). =P

2) I live right next to the beach in the North East of England. It's pretty cool to go down there during the summer, and it's great to go and watch the British Surfing Championships.

3) When I was 14, I went through a year of going to Hospital for random things. I was playing football one time when I decided to tackle a wall (:?), and I fell against it, breaking my arm and dislocating my shoulder leaving me to regain conciousness with my arm in a grotesque position behind my head. To make it worse, it was during lunchtime at school, and there were about 200 spectators. =P

Then my heart started playing up and I was diagnosed with something called *breathes in* Idiopathic Right Bundle Branch Block Ventricular Tachycardia. (Or something like that) It was nothing serious. It basically meant that my heart went into a fast irregular rhythm after heavy exercise, and stayed like that for hours afterwards. A quick radio frequency oblation sorted that one out though!

4) I've got a dog called Macy. Aliases include The Mace, Macycakes, Pretty Princess, Macy Moo, Macykins, Baby Mace, Moobaby...
Anything that disguises her scraggy looks =P

She does this wierd snake thing where she spreads her legs out flat on the carpet and crawls along using her front paws. Ewwww. She also has the reverse snake where she puts her back legs up and crawls using the front so her butt drags across the ground. It looks well gross. =P
She also smiles and sneezes whenever she gets happy and excited. Yes, my dog does smile.

5) Top of my ' places to visit' list is Tokyo. I absolutely loved New York and the whole big city vibe, and I think Tokyo would be even better.

6) I probably want to do something Earth Sciences/Geography based at University. I did want to do Graphics related, but I've changed my mind. Ain't a clue which Uni I'll be going to yet. If anyone knows any which are good for Geography, give me a shout!

7) I'm going through a Poker phase at the minute. I really enjoy doing it online, but even more so with friends.

8) I enjoy the occassional bit of rape...

BWAHAHAHA. Sorry, I am just kidding....

Or am I? :O

I have decided to tag the following randomly:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, how was everyone's Christmas? I hope you all had a good time. I hope you all had a good New Year too.
In 2008, I want to see my portfolio up and running. I want to start getting back into photomanipulation again too, 'cause I do miss it. So be expecting some more of that. ;)

Keep your eyes peeled for 18-55MM. ;)

Oh, I've nearly hit 5000 pageviews too, so cheers for that. Whoever gets my 5000th view and screenshots it (like that will ever happen :P) will get an e-cookie and a virtual hug.

Bye!
Sam
